100 Years of The Oriental Ceramic Society
2021 marked a very special year for the Oriental Ceramic Society. The occasion was celebrated with the opening of our centenary exhibition, Collectors, Curators, Connoisseurs: A Century of The Oriental Ceramic Society, in October 2021. The exhibition was the culmination of two years of impressive scholarship and preparation led by our council member, Sarah Wong. (A few highlights can be seen on this page). More than 3000 people visited the exhibit, each visitor closely following our covid protocols.
In addition to our centenary exhibition, the Society also published a centenary exhibition catalogue and hosted a Study Day. Please see below for details of both.
R.C. Hills Gold Medal Lecture
Peter Lam, Honorary Fellow, Institute of Chinese Studies, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, is the 2021 winner of the R.C. Hills Gold Medal, the most prestigious award granted by the OCS, given to a lifelong scholar who has made a major contribution to the field of Asian art. His lecture, The Eumorfopoulos Phoenix-head Ewer Revisited, was delivered on October 12, 2021.
Centenary Study Day
On November 13th, 2021, we held a fascinating Centenary Study Day: The History of the Oriental Ceramic Society, exploring 100 years of history of the Society. The academic papers presented on the day will be available soon in the “members only” area of our website.
Centenary Exhibition Catalogue
Our Centenary Exhibition catalogue, Collectors, Curators, Connoisseurs: A Century of The Oriental Ceramic Society, is co-edited by OCS council member, Sarah Wong, and our OCS president, Stacey Pierson. This impressive book looks back at the Society’s history and discusses in detail the 128 objects included in our splendid exhibition.
