100 Years of The Oriental Ceramic Society

2021 marks the centenary of the Oriental Ceramic Society.

We will celebrate this occasion with a landmark exhibition, illustrating our journey from a private group of 12 connoisseurs and collectors to our present position as a leading institution for the study of Asian art, in particular, of ceramics.

As part of our celebrations, we are also pleased to announce that we will be hosting a series of events:

  • Centenary Study Day: The History of the Oriental Ceramic Society will take place in London on Saturday, November 13, 2021 in the Brunei Gallery Lecture Theatre at the School of Asian and Oriental Studies (SOAS). The date has been specially chosen to follow Asian Art in London in November 2021. Topics include women collectors, past presidents, exhibitions, museums and the art market. Booking will be online via the OCS website.
  • Our centenary exhibition, Collectors, Curators, Connoisseurs: 100 Years of The Oriental Ceramic Society, opens October 14 through December 11, 2021 in the Brunei Gallery at SOAS. This exhibition will showcase just over 100 pieces, that have been kindly lent by museums and private collectors.
  • We also welcome members to our extensive OCS lecture programme for 2021 which reflects our centenary theme. Among other highlights, Professor Peter Lam has graciously agreed to be our speaker for the Hills Gold Medal Lecture.
