Tours & Visits
The Oriental Ceramic Society welcomes members to join its carefully planned tours, with past tours exploring West England, the Northeast of England, Spain, Germany and Sweden. They are very popular, and we are looking at how we can expand our capacity to meet increasing demand.
Tours to Berlin – May and September 2023
In May and September this year, OCS members enjoyed two 4-day tours to Berlin, organised by Ricarda Brosch and Harry Douglas-Hamilton. Members had special guided tours and took part in handling sessions. Sites visited included Schloss Oranienburg, Museum for Art and Design, Asian Art Museum at the Humboldt Forum, Charlottenburg Palace and Sanssouci Palace. Those who took part in the tour in May also met members of the German Association of East Asian Art. Feedback from both tours was excellent.
Tours to Scotland – September 2022
Two tours to Scotland were organised for 12-15 and 26-29 September respectively. Both were based in Edinburgh and included visits to Newhailes House, Bowhill House, Abbotsford House, the newly reopened Burrell Collection and Pollok House.
Visit to the West Country – June 2022
A tour for OCS members to the West Country was organised for June 2022, the first OCS tour since the Covid pandemic. It was led by Harry Douglas-Hamilton, an experienced tour leader who had already led a number of previous tours.
The tour was based in Bath, with visits to Somerset, Dorset, Gloucestershire and Bristol over the course of three days. The itinarary included the Sir Michael Butler Collection, the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, the Museum of East Asian Art in Bath, and Berkeley Castle.
