100 Years of The Oriental Ceramic Society
2021 marks the centenary of the Oriental Ceramic Society. We will celebrate this occasion with a landmark exhibition, illustrating our journey from a private group of 12 connoisseurs and collectors to our present position as a leading institution for the study of Asian art, in particular, ceramics.
Our centenary exhibition, “Collectors, Curators, Connoisseurs: 100 Years of The Oriental Ceramic Society”, will open October 14, 2021 and will run through December 11, 2021. This exhibition will be held in the Brunei Gallery at the School of Asian and Oriental Studies (SOAS), part of the University of London and will showcase just over 100 pieces kindly lent by museums and private collectors. It will also include documents from our own archive, now housed in the Victoria & Albert Museum.
We will be holding a private reception in October 2021 to celebrate the opening of this special exhibition.
In the months ahead, we will be releasing a programme of educational activities, including gallery talks and a study day at SOAS. All will be timed to coincide with Asian Art in London in November 2021.
The extensive OCS lecture programme for 2021 will also reflect our centenary theme. Professor Peter Lam has graciously agreed to be our speaker for the Hills Gold Medal Lecture. In addition, during the autumn term of 2021, our centenary exhibition will be incorporated into courses in Chinese art, curating and museology at SOAS.
As dates are set and confirmed, we will update our website, so please stay tuned.
